Dining Review: The Doctor’s Office – Holmes Beach, Florida

A spot that does not go unnoticed on Anna Maria Island recommendations is The Doctor’s Office. Typically known for their creative cocktails, this spot also serves up some excellent cuisine which we were curious to try. Located right in the middle of Anna Maria Island by Holmes Beach, this makes The Doctor’s Office very accessible. Reservations are often required to dine, especially during peak season since this spot is very popular.

I opted to make our dinner reservation for the outdoor terrace – we typically love outdoor dining options and this spot had a nice space for it. Make sure you are able to take a peek inside though as everything is themed to you going to the doctor’s. I wish we got to spend more time inside but we were quickly whisked away to the outdoor dining space when we checked in for our reservation.

When we sat down, we were provided with our first round of medicine – two taster cocktails which were super delicious and a welcoming way to introduce the guests to The Doctor’s Office experience. The menu for drinks is extensive and there is a standard menu along with a specials list for food options. Everything sounded really good so we decided to get a few plates to share. Kevin also grabbed a cocktail and the presentation was so pretty you barely wanted to ruin it.

Lobstercargots

This is the dish that made me make the reservation. Lobster in the style of escargot? Yes please. Described as ‘chunks of Florida lobster baked in a crock with her bed garlic butter’, this was a not to miss dish. And it was indeed, delightful as I expected it to be. As with most escargot dishes, the bread provided is never enough to sop up all that garlic butter goodness but thankfully asking for more bread was not an issue here. Leave nothing behind!

Prime American Tenderloin

This tenderloin was on the specials list and it definitely caught Kevin’s attention. The tenderloin was grilled and sliced to order, with port demi-gace and over-roasted asparagus over Chef’s mashed potatoes. And wow the portion size here was great, especially the delicious mashed potatoes. The tenderloin was so tender and the port demi-gace on top was so flavorful. Excellent dish all around!

Caesar Salad

I know this may seem like a basic selection but we both love a solid well made Caesar salad and I feel that most of the time, this dish is phoned in and left wanting. I had a feeling that The Doctor’s Office would not skip the opportunity to make a legitimate Caesar salad – and that they did. Something about serving the entire romaine leaves really jives and feels more fresh, I certainly enjoy it like this. The dressing was packed with that iconic flavor but not overpowering the salad which is easy for this dish.

Chocolate Budino

Full but wanting to top off the night with a dessert, we selected the chocolate budino. This was a decadent and thick chocolate mousse with salt on top and caramel drizzled around the outside. Even though the server said it was rich, I think Kevin and I destroyed this in a matter of bites – it did not last long and I almost wish we each got our own. So definitely do not skip dessert at The Doctor’s Office.

I went back and forth on making the reservation at The Doctor’s Office and I am so glad I did. The food scene here is really not to be missed despite the fact that the primary allure to The Doctor’s Office are the cocktails – which we can confirm are also fantastic. You can spend a few hours lounging in the outdoor terrace under twinkle lights or just stop inside for a quick drink, doctor’s orders of course. It is easy to see why this spot comes highly recommended and is very popular so make sure to plan accordingly if you want to visit The Doctor’s Office on your Anna Maria Island vacation.
