Dining Review: Bistro Zinc – Lenox, Massachusetts
We were not supposed to eat at Bistro Zinc. I had reservations elsewhere and when I went to check the menu hours before our reservation, the menu completely changed and there was nothing appealing and everything was spicy. I was so thrown off by this change and immediately started calling places. We called several with no luck – on a Friday night during peak fall foliage, there was no way we were getting ourselves into a decent spot. But after refreshing resy multiple times, a spot at Bistro Zinc opened up in fifteen minutes so off to the car we ran back to downtown Lenox.
The restaurant is much larger than I expected so it does accommodate quite a number of people with each service. The menu is extensive and while it has a French flare, there are many different options to appease guests. Oh, and the bread service here is absolutely delicious do not miss out.

Duck confit rolls with sweet chili hoisin
We were really hoping for something different than what appeared on the dish. I thought these would be like a fried egg roll but instead it came out in a tortilla wrap which I found quite confusing. This would have been so much more delicious it is was in an egg roll style. I was between several appetizers and I kind of wish I went with something else – the french onion soup was called out in many reviews and I was a bit regretful.

Fried oyster caesar salad
What a delightful salad! I only wish it was covered in fried oysters as there were such a fantastic addition to the salad. Otherwise it was a classic caesar anchovies and all. The dressing maybe could have been a touch less to not overwhelm the salad but overall this was a great choice.

Melanzane lasagna with eggplant, mozzarella, marinara, basil, sauteed spinach
Unlike the duck confit rolls, the entree portions were giant – way to giant for what they needed to me. The lasanga was quite delicious and completely stacked with eggplant. I am not sure how one person can eat this entire portion.

Fettuccine with wild mushrooms, peas, black truffle, parmesan, cream
Again, a giant portion and this was a way heavier dish that I anticipated. I barely made a dent in the bowl. It was very rich and heavy – I think would benefit from being a bit lighter. The flavors were certainly delicious but again, I am not sure how one person can eat this entire portion in it’s current state.

None of the desserts enticed us enough to try as we were already so stuffed from our ginormous entree portions. It is funny that we ended up at a french bistro and ordered mostly Italian food. I would have made different choices with the duck appetizer and my pasta – they were good but I think there were better options on the menu. I think Bistro Zinc is a good option in Lenox – just give the menu a glance to make sure it fits your dining style ahead of time.
