Dining Review: The Lobster Pot – Provincetown, MA Cape Cod

A Provincetown establishment – The Lobster Pot. While this did come recommended, I will be honest I was very skeptical of the quality at a place that is shelling out countless lobsters a day. We were welcomed inside and sat immediately at the upstairs patio and the wow factor hooked me – the view from here was stunning, overseeing the beach, ocean, and the ferry ports that shuttle people back and forth from Boston and Plymouth. This was the moment of relaxation that vacation had begun. We ordered our beverages – – I the Mango Palmer and Kevin a margarita – and soaked in this view.

With an average and overpriced lobster roll earlier in the day at Mac’s, we were open to trying again with lobster here. The menu here is massive – diner styled massive. Our server indicated The Lobster Pot is best known for their clambake where you pick the size and finish (pan roasted, baked stuffed, or boiled) of the lobster and it is served with a bowl of soup of your choice, mussels, corn on the cob, and red potato. And depending on the size of your lobster, this deal starts at $50 – the same price as the lobster roll we had earlier. So which would be the better deal?

The clam chowder came first and it was definitely my favorite of the trip – it was super thick, just the right amount of salt, and stuffed with clams, potatoes, and more. It really hit the spot and I certainly wanted more even if I did not have the stomach real estate for it. Was the Lobster Pot going to be the best lobster of the trip?

We went with a 1.5 pound lobster served pan roasted (a The Lobster Pot specialty), flambeed with brandy, then roasted in the oven served with a fine herb butter sauce and the lobster split for presentation. The clambake also included mussels, corn on the cob, and red potato so it was quite a display when it arrived at the table.

And I must say, the entire meal exceeded expectations in the best way. The lobster was succulent and sweet, the herb butter sauce was plate-licking-good, and the mussels were the largest I have seen. This plus the soup was an excellent value and really put the lobster roll we had earlier for a similar price to shame. All that with this incredible balcony view and fantastic service gives The Lobster Pot two giant thumbs up.
