Dining Review: Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse – Boulder, Colorado
The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse offers a menu with a trip around the world. An expert from the website highlights just how international this establishment is: “From 1987 -1990, more than 40 artisans in several cities of Tajikistan created the decorative elements our Teahouse, including its hand-carved and hand-painted ceiling, tables, stools, columns, and exterior ceramic panels.” It is incredible what a masterpiece this is and all the way from Tajikistan – this craft dates back nearly 2,000 years! And that does not even include all the tea.
The inside is beautifully ornate with a fountain, the middle filled with statues and plants, woodworking on support beams, and delicate tile and paint work to create a colorful and detailed interior.

The tea menu here is extensive and rivals alcohol beverage menus at restaurants – all for just tea! This is certainly a destination for tea lovers and there are so many options it could cause decision paralysis. The staff are extremely knowledgeable so lean into their expertise for help and advice. Based on the coffee orders from the table, it is best to stick to tea at the teahouse.
The food menu is equally as impressive and truly takes a journey around the world. From touches of Europe to spices of the Middle East from sweet to savory, there is truly something for everyone’s palate. There was one thing on the menu I knew the group had the try – the Swedish Svamptoast featuring wild mushroom, shallots, garlic, white wine, goat cheese, truffle oil, grilled artisanal bread. This was so delicious and I could have eaten the entire thing myself. It was super flavorful with a rich umami flavor – highly recommend!

A small plate to share with the table because we love mushrooms, this was fantastic and I could have hoarded the entire thing for myself. This combination of mushrooms, white wine, goat cheese, and truffle oil was a match made in heaven. I need to figure out how to replicate this one at home.
- Palatschinken – Austrian crepes, sweetened cheese, apricot cherry chutney, mint, candied walnut
- Italian Panino – grilled eggplant, tomato balsamic jam, pesto, fontina, arugula, rustic bread, orzo salad
- Indian Dosa – Indian crepe, curried scrambled egg, spinach, potato, onion, mango lassi, apricot-cherry chutney, fresh fruit
- Kookoo Sabzi – Persian herb omelet, baba ghanoush, crispy rice, walnut, house-made naan

Everyone really enjoyed their dish. I ordered the Italian Panino which was probably a boring option considering other menu options but it did not require any spice modifications. I enjoyed it for myself but if you are coming here, it is probably more exciting to get one of the other options. Kevin ordered the Kookoo Sabzi and while it was not the omelet presentation he was expecting, he did enjoy it and wished that there was more baba ghanoush to go around. And the house-made naan was wonderful.
This is definitely a unique establishment in downtown Boulder and even just to admire the inside is a worthy stop as it is so beautiful and delicious.
