Day Trip to Christmas Markets of Riquewihr, France

During our stay in Strasbourg, we embarked on a wine tour exploring the Alsace wine region. Our lunch stop on this tour took us to the town of Riquewihr. We got time to explore the town and had the option of a sit down lunch or snacking around the Christmas markets.

Our guide also educated us that this town was the inspiration for Beauty and the Beast’s French town at the beginning of the movie – even pointing out the fountain where she sits to read the book during the song. We were once again in awe – how can this be a real place? It really looks like a movie set for how over the top everything is and it is wonderful. I could not stop taking photos as each building, street, and holiday display was pure joy. 

The town was very crowded and we arrived on the later side of lunch so a sit down meal did not feel likely so we munched around the market stalls getting a proper tarte flambee, spaetzle, and Nutella crepe. We enjoyed walking the entire town center and enjoying the views. 

I was so happy our lunch stop on our wine tour was at Riquewihr and we had ample time to explore the entire town. It is truly amazing places like this exist in the world.
