Dining Review: La Cullier a Pot – Strasbourg, France

Our trip to Strasbourg included many opportunities to enjoy Alsatian cuisine but while in France, we also wanted to dive into the parts of French food we loved – fresh, creative, decadent dishes. There are many spots in Strasbourg that focus on that and we selected La Cullier a Pot for our meal tonight. This restaurant describes itself as “Contemporary eatery serving locally sourced & seasonal cuisine, plus an extensive wine list” and that was exactly what we wanted.

We arrived at La Cullier a Pot and the environment was sophisticated and comfortable. Our table was situated in a corner giving us a nice viewing area. Shortly after ordering our wine, the amuse bouche of deer and chocolate mini muffins. These savory one-bite muffins were light and fun. The menu here changes frequently which is a testament to their commitment to serving what is seasonal and fresh.

Chicken Mushroom

For our appetizer, we selected the chicken mushroom dish. This incredibly savory dish was a must. With small pieces of chicken inside, the small cast iron container had a surprise layer of grits with a thick sauce full of mushrooms. We loved this dish and used the bread to sop it all up.

Rossini-style scallop tournedos, Duck foie gras and small vegetables of the moment

I never would have thought to put scallops with foie gras but what a match made in heavy. They really complemented each other tremendously well as both being rich, savory, creamy items. I was also very appreciative of the generous accompaniment of vegetables. And there was a potato dumpling that was to die for I wish there was more than just one on the plate. The portion size was also perfect. I was so happy with this dish and loved every bite.

Iberian black pig pluma gratinated with chorizo

Kevin had a tough time deciding on a dish as all the options were tempting and after speaking with our server, he selected the pork dish and was very happy with his decision. The pork was so flavorful and tender, and the sauce added some acid to pair with the meat. The potato side dish was fantastic – I do not know how the potatoes are always such rock stars on the plate.

Cheese plate

we just got a vibe that this spot was going to have a good cheese plate and since we canceled plans at a cheese shop in favor of market treats, we indulged in the cheese plate here. We really enjoyed the selections as they were not typical cheeses. These were farm funky and fresh, and we had multiple favorites on the plate.

Chocolate souffle made with 60% dark chocolate

Just everything you want in a souffle. Thin brownie-like layer on the outside and gooey, rich, hot puddling on the inside. And of course with ice cream to top it off. The perfect ending to the meal.

We loved our meal at La Cullier a Pot! The flavors on each dish were so wonderful and we appreciated the perfect portion sizes that allowed us to experience more of the menu. This was a great break from the traditional Alsatian cuisine and puts a modern twist on it. I would highly recommend La Cullier a Pot.
