Bird Watching in San Ignacio, Belize
Belize is home to over 550 bird species! We dusted off the camera and binoculars and packed them up in hopes of seeing new tropical birds.
With so many birds to see throughout the country, there are a number of regions where you can have the best luck seeing as many birds as possible, including:
- Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary
- Cockscomb Basin Forest Reserve
- Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve
Unfortunately, we did not have all day to access some of the more popular birding sanctuaries and reserves. Since our trip was so short, we only have a few hours in the morning to do our best to see as much as we could see. Fortunately, there are still plenty of birding opportunities around San Ignacio!
Our Airbnb host was once again able to set us up with bird watching. Our guide Andy picked us up at 6AM for a several hour excursion into the jungle. We bird watched through the Crystal Paradise area and spotted some great birds!
- Keel-billed toucan
- Amazon kingfisher
- Multiple hummingbirds
- Black and white warbler
- Roadside hawk
- Brown jay
- Various flycatchers
- Different woodpeckers
- White fronted parrot
- Yellow headed parrot
- Pygmy owl
